Rookie Lessons

Maybe I should call this “confessions of a rookie blogger”. I did way too much research before launching my blog, which delayed the launch honestly. The delay caused me to start the week before our main show season hit and I didn’t give myself time to get a routine established pre-season. I brainstormed, planned, and prepared. But, in the end, it wasn’t enough. I thought I had enough blogs drafted or outlined to get through the first few months easy. My intention was to post once a week. How hard can that be when you tell stories as much as I do? I received so much positive feedback that drafting and posting the first few weeks was easy. You guys put wind in my sails, and I launched with a bang. I was able to make enough time to work on the blog posts and thoughtfully draft, edit, and choose appropriate images for each one.
Then our busy season hit. I was so not prepared enough for that. Our weekends were full of horse shows and leading our church’s food pantry garden. The garden had work nights once or twice during the week too. Plus, all the normal things in life needed to be done. Let’s not forget the regular ol’ job that takes at least 40 hours a week. A couple unexpected big events happened too. All of which demanded time. I was able to get in a few blog posts over the summer, but boy was it tougher than I thought. I sit here chiding myself for letting everyone down and laughing at myself for thinking I had it all figured out. If you know me, being this caught off guard irks me to no end.
Life has settled down. Unexpected events have been handled. Shows and the garden have lightened a bit, even though that’s bittersweet. I’ve taken stock of the things I learned, and I know next summer will be much different. I am going to have final drafts and a posting schedule planned well in advance of show season. I am not giving up, just re-grouping. Us country girls don’t get bucked off that easy.
So, I’ve started outlining, drafting and planning again. I’ll be back in the swing of posting soon. I’m already working on a few topics you guys will hopefully find educational, fun and worth the read.
